PASSIVE HOUSE APPROACHES
The building is configured as a series of interconnected blocks. Th e internal layout was then organised around the views, the available sunlight, and the desire to facilitate a flow of air and conversation between the spaces. The design focused on the combination of optimal orientation, solar energy usage and natural ventilation. The high thermal mass materials, argon filled double glazing throughout and specifically located cross ventilation ensures the home is in a continual flux of natural comfort.
The main living areas were to face this orientation with large amounts of glazing inviting the desirable northern winter sun to enter. Carefully calculated overhanging awning roofs to the ground and first-floor windows were designed to block out any undesirable, summer sun.
